Questions You May Have Q: Where would I live while I am doing a rotation in Markdale?
A: A comfortable and furnished small apartment within walking distance of the hospital is available to visiting residents and students while they are at the Centre Grey Hospital. It is provided by the local Centre Grey Health Services Foundation. Talk to Margaret Doig, Administrative Assistant, Centre Grey Hospital, Markdale, 519-986-3040 x6124 mdoig@gbhs.on.ca to inquire about arrangements.
Q: What would I do at a small hospital such as Centre Grey in Markdale?
A: The entire hospital staff welcomes residents and students who choose to work or volunteer at our hospital. You have the opportunity here to experience the full spectrum of a rural practice, working with staff in a wide variety of roles, depending on the stage of your training. You may take part in office visits, inpatient care, emergency and surgery, all in a supportive setting.
Q: What would I do in my ‘off’ time?
A: Your ‘off’ time is a great opportunity to explore and enjoy the area, whether or not it is new to you. You could choose to bike, ski (downhill or cross-country), golf, curl, canoe, rock climb, hike the Bruce Trail, and participate in local cultural events, organizations and communities. The physician recruitment and retention committee will provide you with information and be happy to take you for a tour of the community to help you get to know the surrounding area.
Q: How long would it take to drive to Markdale from Toronto?
A: Markdale is less than 2 hours from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. The Markdale community appreciates that it is close enough to Toronto to enjoy the wide variety of cultural and shopping experiences, and at the same time, far enough away to appreciate living in a countryside of natural beauty with so many outdoor recreational activities. Public transportation is limited; it is preferable to have access to a vehicle.
