Happenings in Centre Grey

The Centre Grey community supports excellent local health care. Over 13 million dollars have been raised through fundraising and pledges as the community’s share of the total financial commitment which is required to build a new state-of-the-art acute care hospital. The new hospital will be built on property adjacent to the existing modern long-term care facility called Grey Gables. Approximately 3 million dollars have already been advanced by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for planning for the new facility, and the community is now waiting for the final go-ahead from the Province.

Also, plans are well underway for a primary care facility nearby to provide new, efficient office space and facilities for our physicians.

Grey Bruce Health Services, Markdale (one of five rural hospitals of Grey Bruce Health Services, with the corporate office located in Owen Sound), is an accredited primary care community hospital which provides in-patient care, day surgery, 24/7 out-patient emergency services, palliative care and a range of ambulatory care services including speech therapy, diabetic outreach, a dietitian and limited physiotherapy. It has an excellent lab, diagnostic imaging and ultrasound. Visiting specialists add to the range of health services provided. Digital radiography equipment, PACS and electronic health records are in place.

Consulting back-up is readily available at our regional hospital in Owen Sound (only 30 mins. away), with 50 specialists on staff, a 24/7 lab, diagnostic imaging, CT, MRI, and Level 1 Psychiatry. All obstetrical cases are referred to Owen Sound.

Two nurse practitioners, along with supporting physicians, service the health care needs of approximately two thousand residents in this practical facility close by the hospital. There is practice space available for another physician.

Dundalk Medical Building

Generous stand-alone office space, fully equipped and furnished, is ready and available for two physicians. This building is owned by the local Lions’ Club, houses other health-related businesses and is offered with very reasonable rent. Dundalk residents have the services of a Nurse Practitioner, sponsored by the VON, who practices at the Old Firehall Clinic (519-923-6324).
